Trick or Treat? Happy Halloween!

 

 Octobor is coming to an end!
There is a special day which is getting popular in Korea as well, people can enjoy and lots of events are in different cities.
Can you take a guess? It is Halloween day!
Halloween used to be for only other countries, and not Korea. We could see that people in funny costumes and wander for candies in many foreign moves, and it can be found here in Korea easily these days. 

 

 Origin of Halloween

 

What does Halloween mean exactly? Halloween is on October 31, and it is also Eve of All Hallows and became huge festival in America.
Halloween is originally from Samhain which is traditional festival for Celts. They made food and dedicated to god of death ejecting devil spirits, and at that time, they were afraid of the spirits which were harm. Therefore, they started putting on some ridiculous clothes to make them scared. This tradition became Halloween costume and still exists til now.

 In the middle of 19th century, Halloween was small regional festival of Scottish and Irish who had tradition of Celts’ . While Irish was undergoing great famine and moving to America, it spread all over areas in the states. As the result, Halloween has become one of the major festivals in America.
On Halloween day, people make Jack-O-lantern carving pumpkin and decorate their home, and children visit their neighbors to get candy or chocolate. Also, adults put on costume and participate in Halloween. Halloween is for everyone without distinction of sex and age.

Halloween events and festivals

 

 Recently, there are easy chances that we can enjoy Halloween in Korea because theme parks are having more and more special and fun events.
Lotte world is holding ‘horror Halloween zombie island’. It is from August 3rd to November 6th , and lots of programs which are combined with horror and Halloween. This program starts in every evening, at 6PM after sun goes down. Various programs are going and getting popular since they mix with ‘horror’ and ‘escaping game from room’ in those events. 

  

 Another popular amusement park ‘Everland’ is also holding ‘Halloween & Horror nights’. If you are one of those who are into fun and interesting Halloween festival, Happy Halloween is for you, whereas Horror nights suits more people who want to experience scary and thrill night.
Everybody who takes part in those festivals can have face painting and watch Halloween magic show on every Saturday.

 

What to wear for costume?

 

 Costume is the most important part in Halloween. We are looking forward to which costume attracts this year. Ghost, zombie, Frankenstein, Joker are all time favorites for many people, but we are expecting main actors in The Wailing(movie), charactors of Kakao friends, Harley Quinn this year.

 

Today we learned about Halloween. Halloween got to be familiar day that people can enjoy in Korea nowadays.
