Zygoma Reduction (Cheekbone Reduction): Zygoma reduction minimizes dissection which separates soft tissues from the cheekbones, adjusts the position of the cheekbones (zygoma) by considering the patient's skin elasticity and texture, and firmly fixes the bones so their gap would not widen after the surgery to prevent droopy cheeks.

What is cheekbone reduction (zygoma reduction?)

Zygoma reduction reduces protruded cheekbones.
The more protruded the cheekbone (zygoma), the stronger and rougher the impression it gives out. The cheekbones may look more protruded as the cheeks sink due to aging.
Zygoma reduction further reduces the cheekbone through L-shaped osteotomy (bone cut) to make the side and front cheekbone look smaller and forms a natural volume according to the twisting movement of the cheekbones.

1. Why the cheekbone surgery (zygoma reduction) is called baby face surgery.
The cheek looks more protruded due to aging from the 30s due to droopy skin and this is why people in their 20s look older.

TIP

The existing zygoma reduction surgery cuts the cheekbone into a I shape and pushes the separated bones inside. 

While the width of the cheekbones on the sides are reduced due to the amount of the bones pushed inside, the reduction of the front side of the cheekbones is insignificant. Therefore, this surgery method is not used that much.
However, it is good for patients with a flat front side of the cheekbone with developed cheekbones on the side. Thus, it is important to precisely analyze the cheekbones before performing the surgery.
